Hack: How Hide the Christmas Tree Stand

Looking for a creative way to hide your Christmas tree stand? In almost every home, the Christmas tree is beautifully decorated, but the stand is rarely something you’d want on display. Discover a simple and stylish solution to hide the Christmas tree stand, making it blend perfectly with the gifts underneath. Plus, it makes cleaning around the tree much easier and helps prevent accidental tipping. Transform your winter holiday decor with this easy hack!

What You Need

You need a box with an opening at the top and large enough to fit your Christmas tree stand. Choose a beautiful wrapping paper with festive holiday patterns or opt for recycled paper or for wrapping paper that you’ve decorated yourself. You’ll also need a measuring tape to determine the right box size, tape to secure the wrapping paper, and a ribbon or decorative element to enhance the look. If you have cats, consider adding a weight inside the box to ensure your tree stays upright throughout the holiday season. This practical and stylish solution will keep your tree stand hidden and secure!

How to Hide the Christmas Tree Stand

First, ensure your tree stand fits securely in the chosen box, even if you measured it beforehand. Do it before setting up and decorating your tree, as handling it afterward can be challenging. I used a small tree that was easy to lift, but not all trees are as manageable.

Next, cut a piece of wrapping paper large enough to cover the box. Make sure the paper extends to wrap around the edges of the two flaps at the top of the box, leaving an extra inch on each side for a clean finish. You can see the process step-by-step in the following image.

The box has four flaps that overlap: two underneath and two on top. Start by tucking the bottom flaps completely inside the box, leaving the top ones untouched. Wrap the box in your chosen paper, focusing on the sides while keeping the top open. At each corner, trim the excess paper up to the edge of the box to create a clean fold. It’s easy to see where it goes from here: fold the paper inward where the flaps are tucked inside, and overlap it over the flaps where they remain open. This is how you get a seamless and polished look for your tree stand cover.

Secure the wrapping paper on the inside with tape, and make sure it stays smooth. Avoid pulling the paper too tightly to prevent tearing. Now, place the stand inside, add the tree in the stand, and hang the ornaments!

If something feels incomplete, you’re right—a small decoration can help conceal the area where the tree enters the box. I chose a raffia ribbon that matches the tone and style of the DIY paper ornaments I used to decorate the tree.

That’s it! This solution works for larger trees too, as long as you have the right box. If your tree is already decorated and you think it’s too late to create a stand cover, there’s a workaround: wrap a closed box, then cut it diagonally so the two halves are connected at a single corner (as shown in the next image, marked in pink). This creates a clamshell effect. Next, cut a small opening at the top for the tree trunk and a larger one at the base to fit around the stand. The box will then act as a protective cover around the stand, and you can place it without moving the tree.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way, right?

Simple, isn’t it?
