DIY at Its Best: 60-Second No Sew & No Tools Seat Cover

I will show you how to easily make no sew upholstery for a kitchen chair in less than a minute.

I know people who love DIY but miss the skills to build even the simplest things. They turn the easiest task into a failed rocket launch, not to mention how they hurt themselves with the tools they handle.

I will give them a helping hand with this easy and no-sew, no-cut and totally harmless project. I will show you how to easily make upholstery for a kitchen chair in less than a minute.

The idea popped out of my head when I was about to fell down the chair after the pillow slipped on a side along while I was sitting and moving.

I was looking for a way to change those green pillows anyway, but I was still undecided about the color.  Seeing the final pictures with this project, made me think seriously about changing some colors in my kitchen to better fit a lighter scheme. I might paint the furniture an make it white or cream, for example. Food for thought…

What You Need

All you need for this project is a piece of fabric and, of course, the chair. Look for a piece of cloth whose length is twice and a half the size of the seat, because you will need this extra fabric later in the project.

It takes less than a minute once you know the steps to take, but let’s say you need 5 minutes for the first try.

If you want to have a smoother seat, grab a piece of 2-in multipurpose foam in the same size as the seat. This is actually how you turn your seat cover into upholstery.

How You Do It

First, place the multi-purpose foam on the seat, and center it.

Now you have to do the same with the fabric and leave its corner hanging like you see below:

And here comes the hardest part of this easy project: fold the fabric under the foam so the fabric would not hang over it and create an unpleasant pleat. This is how you create a neat look fort he edges of the seat cover.

Now that the corners are put in place, let’s use those hanging parts to finish the job!

Turn the chair upside down and tie the opposite parts of the fabric so you could fix the foam and the fabric on the seat, and the edges would be neat.

Turn again the chair, grab a cup of coffee and sit down while chatting a friend… Now you can enjoy the smooth result of your project!

Let’s take a closer look at this cover:

It takes like 60 seconds to make it. It took me more because of the pictures.

Would you give it a try? Let me know what you think!

    1. The fabric is an old linen tablecloth, and I loved it too. It’r pretty worn out, but it still looks lovely.
As for the link party, I’m happy you provide this opportunity 🙂 Thank you.
